Ken Jones’ involvement with the nonprofit sector and commitment to supporting it through his financial training began over twenty years ago when he was hired to work for the SEARCH Homeless Project in Houston, TX. At that time Ken was recruited by the finance director, an episcopal priest at SEARCH, to join him and others in the formation of an outreach program to the homeless in midtown Houston. The program has grown and flourished to become The Lord of the Streets Episcopal Church/Community of The Streets Outreach.
Ken’s early finance and accounting experience after graduating from Rutgers College in New Jersey with a BA in Business Administration were in the areas of insurance sales and income tax preparation. Since arriving in Texas during the early 1990’s, Ken has served in several accounting roles in healthcare, architecture, engineering and interstate moving and storage firms.
Today Ken holds positions as Controller for a nonprofit mental health provider offering services in Houston, Katy and Spring, Financial Secretary for a midtown Houston church, Bookkeeper for Fe y Justicia Worker Center, and Vice-President and Treasurer for a blossoming nonprofit publishing company based in Houston.
Ken recently completed the Rice University Susan Glasscock School of Philanthropy Nonprofit Finance Certificate course and is anxious to use the lessons learned to expand financial leadership roles in the many nonprofit organizations he supports.
